Seasickness, Never

It was 10 o’clock when I left Miag-ao last October 19. Upon arriving at Iloilo City, specifically at SM, I immediately stopped by the Traveler’s Lounge to buy a boat ticket. It cost over P950.00 (vessel was Trans-Asia). The trip was scheduled 5PM so I stayed at SM to kill the time and buy stuffs. In no time, my pocket was already almost empty. I was somehow worried because I could not withdraw (LBP) in BDO. I met my dormmate Zeny and she was mourning over the same thing - bank branch is offline. Off I went to the pier at 4:30 and in the taxi (I just had to take one because I’ve had a bad experience of being ‘late’ in such trips) that I rode, the driver was ranting about the passenger before me. The vessel’s tourist accommodation was perfectly fine. I also liked the fact that there were a lot of people around me, many of them professionals who seemed to have attended some seminar. After eating KFC for dinner, my mosquito net was all over my bed and subsequently, I dreamed.

The following morning, I found out that four of my schoolmates were also in the ship all along! There was Ate Kat, Asylla, Donna, and Ate Gail. Ate Kat was fetched by his father in their car. Good thing, for at least I had a sure ride to SM City Cebu. It was already a Saturday. Unlike SM City Iloilo, the Traveler’s Lounge had no tickets available for the vessel going to Mindanao. Grr.. I watched a movie, ate lunch, and surfed Netopia before being fetched by my cousins. I bought my ticket in this busy street in Cebu, Colon. Then I went to my cousins’ (Ate Ivy and Jid) boarding house at Urgello. Their place was small and cool. When we went to the pier before 8, I was very surprised to see that the terminal was loaded with people. It was the first time I saw such thing. Sandwiched by people, I dropped my bag to relax my arm. The lady behind me reacted, saying that it hit her foot. She was a cool lady. She then assured me that she was fine and with a very youthful accent, said, “Taasa nimo uy. Pila may height nimo?”

Thank God, I arrived in our house in Butuan City safe and sound, after successfully getting my way from Nasipit port to the bus and jeepney terminal. I stayed for a day in Butuan, either navigating Gaisano Mall (where I unexpectedly met Claire, a HS classmate) or simply lying on the bed. And! This one important thing I did for the very first time. I shaved off my mustache! The feeling was weird. I kinda felt bad about doing it. Then again, I will eventually have to do it in the future, right? With this, do you think I thought that my appearance now look better? Hahah, definitely yes if Oakland face lift would do me further. But yeah, honestly, I didn’t know what to feel.

Breaking Dorm Rules

(10.19) The day to leave the dorm has come. Everything’s already set, including the PC which will be borrowed by Kristin San over the break for thesis purposes. I think I had breakfast with the few remaining people in the dorm then. I left some dirty laundry to Kristin since we have the same labandera. And since it’s my last day, I decided to go directly to their room to deliver it. When I was about to go out, the dorm staff came around, fetching empty softdrink bottles. I was very tense that she’d catch me. But with the aid of Jo Ann (Kristin’s roommate), who talked to her while she was doing something in the Wash Room, I was able to successfully get out of the scene. *dropsweat* I did not just stop there. Lol. The other night we checked the refrigerator and there was a little Toblerone bar that looked ‘deserted’ by the owner. I, without further ado, had it. Hehe, bad naughty me. In the other ref, there were two Chuckie’s (choco drink) labeled “Jaja”. We thought about who the owner might be and realized that she already left. It ended up in my (and Jo Ann’s) hands.

* There’s this video in the computer with a filename “job_interview1.wmv”. A girl was apparently on a date blabbing a lot not realizing that she got her right boob exposed already! It’s not intended to be sensual, I’d say, for it’s really hilarious in a way. Her bust was pretty impressive and I presume it was ‘made’, perhaps by breast augmentation surgery. I dunno. Different kinds of breast surgeries exist these days.

A Final Taste of PHP

(10.18) After the bloody Calculator applet, there was one more thing to do before the semester got its conclusion - the HTML form validation using (JavaScript and) PHP. When we got out the lab late in the afternoon the day we presented our applets, fog was covering the campus. It was amazing to look at. For me, it was the school’s environment’s way of saying goodbye to us.. That night, when I entered the dorm, Thea told me that my eyes were different. She immediately knew the reason herself. I think that was also the night when Ethel Booba entered the PBB House in a flamboyant (according to Toni) costume. Despite having taken beer, I think I still slept around 2 that ‘night’ and was still able to go to school by 9.

I was so excited for my exercise to be checked so that I can finally grab some ticket home. JavaScript didn’t seem to work in my code so I had to ask Sir what was wrong. He simply told me to refer to the Firefox Error Console. Done. After a series of debugging, everything seemed fine. Sir checked my work but caught one thing - directly accessing the logout link should only display logout confirmation if there’s a session in the first place. With that, I was left to add more code (and in fact do a series of trials). But it turned out that all I had to do was copy the same code when accessing the main menu after logging in. I said goodbye to my classmates thereafter and left them important segments of my codes. My world turned upside down when I knew that there were no longer available slots for the plane for the following day. I walked to the dorm with a heavy stomach. With no other choice left to do, I decided that I have to try cutting sea trips this time: Iloilo-Cebu and Cebu-Nasipit. I asked tips from Jo Ann (a HS schoolmate) since she frequently does this routine. It seemed fine, and I hoped to be fine after two days.

* Being home right now isn’t so boring after all. I found these funny videos in the computer and there was this one where a lady was walking by the shore and seeing a hot guy who just got himself done and was doing his clothes one by one. Simultaneously, she made seductive gestures while drinking Coke Light only to find out in the end that the guy is a priest. ^_^ In life, we should think before acting. That is, know one before taking actions that deal with him/her. Some things are simply irresistible though. [random] With regards to this, does the name Neil Crespi ring any bell to you? You should check him out.

Deadly Calculator Applet

(10.17) One of the requirements to pass our CMSC140 class was a Java Calculator Applet. Applets were not discussed in depth because we were more focused on Web programming (I guess?) so it was undeniably hard for us to make one from scratch. Because of this, well, obviously, we simply searched for codes - both complex and simple - online. The main thing that was left for us to do then was to understand and, perhaps, modify the codes. My classmate Marc found one that used Objects and Classes like the ones our teacher used in his examples. I asked their group if we can use the same code and they benevolently nodded. And so the big day came. Of course, since we only copied our (copied) code, I had to let the other group go first. I did not listen to them, and it turned out they were not able to completely defend it. When it was our turn, I was trembling. Haha. I think Sir, knowing that all of us didn’t do any of the codes, planned to question every portion of the code as much as possible. With the help of my groupmates Lairy and Sheilamae, we survived. Whew!

At night, Schiren called me at the dorm and asked me if it’d be a good idea that we, classmates, have some quality time together at Omp’s Corner. Yes, it was the perfect time. So there we were, munching nuts while gripping Red Horse bottles on one hand. Hehe.. Too bad we didn’t file late permits so we had to, err, start walking before 10PM struck. We ordered a sisig before finally leaving the place. It was good, yeah.

* Hey, do you think the Internet’s too influential these days? Uh, there’s no doubt about it, right? Everything’s possible - information, multimedia, entertainment, money, instant chatting, fame, publicity. I don’t know if you’ve already heard of this guy George Lindemann? Well, I’ve had so many assignments anchoring him, so.. I’d say that he’s worth knowing. Click!

Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat!

I am currently in Cebu City - cutting trips to Mindanao since I was unfortunate enough to get a plane ticket. I’ll be taking another sea trip this evening and hopefully, I’ll be ‘home’ tomorrow. I am in Netopia (where else? lol) right now here at SM City and I just had my lunch at KFC. As usual, I ordered the Chicken Strips Meal and an additional rice. Before it, I watched this movie by Wenn V. Deramas which stars Rufa Mae Quinto, Eugene Domingo, Candy Pangilinan, and Pokwang. It was already in my plan to watch this movie even when I was still in Iloilo. Today, when the cinema corridors were still empty, I browsed through the posters and read Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat!’s. It was then that I realized that Candy looked dead in the poster. Well, it turns out that she really was in the movie. The storyline goes like this:

As children, they were involved in an accident that made them promise each other to become the best of friends. They eventually grow up in the same place. Rufa Mae got a funeral service business; Eugene, a hunk boyfriend; Candy, a hot-headed family; and Pokwang, a husband and two children. Then one day they decided to go to Hong Kong to become domestic helpers. Candy was unluckily assigned to a cruel couple. She got killed. Her three bestfriends had no other choice, after being threatened, to bring her body home and hide her death until Candy’s family is ready to take it. But how will they device a plan that the family that ought to know the truth will not kill them if this little secret is revealed?

I actually thought that I would have all the laughs I could have because the main characters holds today’s funny names. But it turned out not. I really hated the scenes when Candy got maltreated. Argh, the character of the wife looked awful with her posture and talked Chinese (or I don’t know) in a way that really haunted me. It’s so sad that this thing happens to be true for some Filipinos out there. Tsk. I should’ve really watched Stardust instead (the synopsis got me very curious when I read it earlier). Nyeh. ‘Damage’ has been done, so be it.
